In 1883 he immigrated to St. Leon, Manitoba. He then came to Minto, ND with form builders. He came to Cavalier County in 1889 and homesteaded two mile north of Mt. Carmel. Charles first started farming with oxen. Later the Hell family worked together at threshing time, owning a separator and steamer. Charles did a lot of construction work, helping build the church in Mt. Carmel, the elevators in Manitou, Manitoba. Adeline was busy helping deliver new babies and tending to the elderly and sick.
